491 Space is a newly established cultural and creative park that combines the protection of red heritage, cultural creativity, and fashionable leisure. It is transformed from the old factory building of 491 Radio Station.
The park is located in a slightly remote area and is not very large. However, there are many unique shops inside, including motorcycle clubs, indoor off-road arenas, skateboard clubs, small bars, cafes, and more. When visiting on weekends, there are not many people, and overall it has a feeling similar to 798 Art District. The old buildings in the park are a niche and hidden gem, especially for motorcycle enthusiasts looking for a place to take photos.
About 491 Radio Station:
491 Radio Station, formerly known as "Shuangqiao Radio Station," was built in 1918 and completed in 1923. It has six iron towers, one transmission building, and seven small dormitory buildings. They are all Japanese-style villa-style buildings, with granite and red bricks as the foundation, orange walls, white cement door and window frames, irregular multi-sided roofs, and red tiles.
The former site of 491 Radio Station is the earliest radio station in China. The news of the establishment of the People's Republic of China was broadcasted from here. It is a key national cultural relic protection unit and a must-visit for history and culture lovers.
